About Me:
Circumstances and situations do color life, but you have been given the mind to choose what the color shall be (John Homer Miller). And I choose rainbow sherbet! Maybe starting from high school graduation would be easiest. After all of the pomp and circumstance, I was engaged in a discussion of future plans with one of my favorite teachers when my mother approached and listened in. Suzanne asked if I’d consider becoming a teacher (for the g’zillionth time) to which I emphatically replied that I would NEVER go to college. There was no need for it; I was headed into the US Air Force to be a drug dog handler, and I planned on that as my career. Well, after four years in the Air Force (as said drug dog handler), I found myself searching for a civilian career. The Seattle PD fell through (TWICE), and Contra Costa County Sheriffs applied a hiring freeze just after I tested there. My final hope to stay in law enforcement failed, and I was then stuck jobless in Albuquerque. I married a military guy there, and soon after we were re-assigned to Holloman AFB. (We have since divorced.) Not wanting to make a career of either fast food (but I COULD have been a MANAGER), or security guarding, I made the first step: passing the ACT. Then I was off to classes. 2 at a time (I didn’t want to get too involved) it was in my second two-class semester that I met Dr. Z. I still blame him for igniting my passion to teach in a formal setting (curses…). My mom still laughs that “never” actually means eight years. Once the passion was ablaze, I HAD to get into my own classroom! I pursued 18-21 credits per semester for the following seven semesters while still working 35-40 hours per week. In December, 2001, I set foot into my very own classroom as a real-live TEACHER! I teach… well, I teach students. The subject matter is speech and debate, but there is so much more! My life’s mission is to do what I gotta do and have the most fun doing it that I possibly can! That both delights and frustrates my sphere of influence. I (try to) stick to the rules, and relentlessly pursue fairness and consistency in all that I endeavor. Students count me as “that cool teacher – but don’t make fun of anyone when she’s around.” Administrators consider me “the one most in need of Adderall,” and my colleagues think of me as a computer nerd. The most important thing that I have ever been called is, “friend”!
